Life and Legacy of Hugo Dennis Jr. Celebrated

Family, friends, and members of the V.I. Legislature celebrated the life and legacy of Hugo Dennis Jr. on Friday at his funeral service at St Andrew’s Episcopal Church on St. Thomas.

Dennis served as president of the 15th Legislature and as Minority Leader over two terms in office. After leaving the Senate, he held roles in the Department of Housing, Parks and Recreation, serving as assistant commissioner and acting commissioner.

Dennis was also the founding president of the St. Thomas-St. John Federation of Teachers and the Central Labor Council of the Virgin Islands. He was a staunch advocate for the advancement of the U.S. Virgin Islands and valued education and those who provided it.

Dennis died on June 7 at Schneider Regional Medical Center. He was 86.
