Man Attempts to Smuggle Marijuana into Territory

Customs and Border Patrol found bags of marijuana stashed in a man’s luggage at Cyril E. King Airport Tuesday, the V.I. Police Department reported.

On Tuesday around 4:00 p.m., the Virgin Islands Police Department and the Port Authority were notified of a Black male, identified as 47-year-old Nikillo J. Rhymer, being held by Customs and Border Patrol for luggage that failed preliminary inspection. Rhymer was traveling from Orlando to St. Thomas, according to the police report.

When officers arrived on scene, CBP explained that as a result of the failed inspection, the luggage was searched, and several black vacuum-sealed bags that tested positive for marijuana were found, the police report stated.

When contact was made with Rhymer he declined to give a statement. Rhymer was advised of his Constitutional Rights and remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advice of rights hearing. He was charged with possession with the intent to distribute and his bail was set at $7,500, the report stated.
