St. Croix Man Allegedly Strangles Family Member

A St. Croix man was arrested Friday for allegedly strangling a family member during an argument, the V.I. Police Department reported.

On Dec. 26, 2023, the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report of a disturbance in progress at a family residence in Estate Strawberry Hill. Upon the responding officers’ arrival, they met with the parties, who were then separated, according to the police report.

An investigation conducted by the Criminal Investigation Bureau disclosed that Fitzroy D. Browne strangled a family member during a heated argument. This assault was confirmed by witnesses who were present, the police report stated.

On Friday, Browne, 57, was present at the Wilbur H. Francis Command Police Station, where he was advised of his Miranda Rights. He denied assaulting the victim and stated that the victim assaulted him. Browne was placed under arrest for assault in the second degree, and simple assault and battery domestic violence, the report stated.

No bail was set in this matter as it is an act of domestic violence. Browne was remanded to the John Bell Correctional Facility pending his advice of rights hearing set for Monday, police said.
