The St. John Social Action Team will join the national organization Indivisible in a No Kings Rally in Defense of Democracy on Saturday, June 14, with a march through the streets of Cruz Bay.

The event will start at 5 p.m. with local speakers and music at the National Park Dock in Cruz Bay. At 5:30 p.m. participants will march through the streets of Cruz Bay and end the route at Frank Bay where there will be a sunset celebration, according to a press release announcing the event.
The actions are set to take place during President Donald Trump’s military parade in Washington, D.C., on June 14. “Instead of allowing this military parade to be the center of gravity, activists are planning over 1,400 No Kings events in all 50 states, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and abroad,” it said.
Alongside local organizers, partners and leaders from across the pro-democracy and pro-worker movements, activists across the country will come together for marches, rallies, and demonstrations to reject corrupt, authoritarian politics in the United States.
“From city blocks to small towns, from courthouse steps to community parks, we’re taking action to reject authoritarianism and show the world what democracy actually looks like: people, united, refusing to let their constitutional rights be abolished by executive order,” the release stated.

The goal of the St. John Social Action Team is to harness the power of love to confront and transform systems of oppression and build a world where all people can thrive, it said, adding that “through organizing, education, and mobilization, we equip community members to take justice-oriented action.”
A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. “We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events,” the organizers stated.
