The Virgin Islands Olympic Committee will commemorate six decades of promoting Olympic values and supporting athletes throughout the territory during its 60th Anniversary Gala on Saturday, Aug. 22, at The Westin Beach Resort & Spa at Frenchman’s Reef on St. Thomas.
The milestone celebration will bring together Virgin Islands Olympians, athletes, coaches, sports administrators, government officials, corporate partners, and community members for an evening recognizing the organization’s history and the individuals who have helped shape the Olympic movement in the Virgin Islands.
As part of the celebration, the VIOC will honor Lyn Reid and Carl Plaskett for their outstanding contributions to the advancement of sports and the Olympic movement in the territory. Both honorees are being recognized for decades of leadership, service, and dedication to developing athletes and strengthening opportunities for Virgin Islands to compete at the highest levels of international sport.
Founded in 1966, the Virgin Islands Olympic Committee has played a central role in preparing and supporting athletes representing the U.S. Virgin Islands in regional, continental, and Olympic competition. Over the past six decades, Virgin Islands athletes have competed on some of the world’s biggest sporting stages, carrying the territory’s flag with pride while inspiring future generations to pursue athletic excellence.
The anniversary gala will celebrate those achievements while reflecting on the organization’s enduring mission to foster sportsmanship, leadership, and opportunity through athletics.
