Friday Parade Remembers Queen Karence DeCosta

A parade will be held Friday night to honor the memory of Karence DeCosta, the 2009 Carnival Queen who died in a car accident one year ago, on her high school graduation night.

The parade begins at 7 p.m. at the Market Square and travels east on Main Street, ending at the Fort Christian Parking Lot. There will be approximately eight entries including the Hugga Bunch Carnival Troupe participating in the event.

Officers from the Traffic Enforcement Bureau of the police department request that all vehicles parked on Main Street be removed by 5 p.m. All traffic headed west on Norre Gade from Zora through Main Street will be restricted once the parade has begun. Traffic will be re-routed onto Veterans Drive. Additionally, all traffic heading east on Back Street is restricted from traveling eastward on Norre Gade. The traffic will be re-routed over Government Hill.

The police are asking motorists to utilize Veterans Drive once the parade has begun. Once the parade is finished, normal traffic patterns will resume.
