Lieutenant Governors Select St. Thomas for 2017 Meeting

The National Lieutenant Governors Association has chosen St. Thomas to be the site for its November 2017 business meeting, Lt. Gov. Osbert E. Potter announced.

In a news release issued Monday, Potter said he pitched St. Thomas for the site at the association’s 2016 annual meeting, which was held July 6 through 8 in Grand Rapids, Mich.

“The idea of bringing the conference to the Virgin Islands gives me a chance to interact with lieutenant governors while in my jurisdiction," Potter said in the news release. For some of them it would be their first exposure to the Virgin Islands. Networking with other lieutenant governors is very important. Bringing them to the Virgin Islands would be a major impetus in our networking with fellow lieutenant governors throughout the nation.”

The NLGA membership consists of lieutenant governors from the 50 states and the U.S. territories. Lieutenant governors throughout the country, their staff and family members are expected to be in attendance at the 2017 meeting, at which the lieutenant governors discuss topics including the direction of the organization and the organization’s financial health.

At the Grand Rapids conference, Potter was one of the lead members in a roundtable discussion on “Tourism Brands & Budgets.” Other topics discussed at the conference included “How Your State Works with Persons with Disability” and “Changing the Special Education Culture.”
