Police Officer Charged with Domestic Violence

A V.I. Police Department sergeant was arrested on Saturday and charged with second-degree assault, domestic violence, the police reported.

According to police, at roughly 11:20 p.m. Oct. 17, 38-year-old Jamale Griffin of Enfield Green was arrested. Griffin has been placed on leave pending the outcome of this case, the department said.

According to the police report, the investigation revealed that Griffin allegedly assaulted a family member during a disagreement. Griffin was released into the custody of a third-party custodian pending his advice of rights hearing.

Police Commissioner Trevor Velinor reminded the community that there is no excuse for domestic violence, even when it is committed by police officers.

“My expectation is that all police officers will uphold the law and adhere to the laws of the territory. There are ways to resolve issues and domestic violence is not an acceptable option,” Velinor said.
