St. Croix filmmaker Ramon Richardson recently released a documentary about the importance of agriculture on his home island, highlighting how local food makes its way from the farm to the table.
Richardson was inspired to create the film after hearing several community members speak – in person and on the radio – about the territory’s agricultural deficiencies and the importance of becoming more self-reliant with food production.
“I felt as a filmmaker doing a documentary about it would benefit us on St. Croix first and foremost and of course the world. The documentary focuses on the different stages of the Agricultural process – from the farm to the restaurants. Also, I wanted to show how it benefits some of us as a source of employment,” said Richardson.
The production timeline for the film spanned seven years, ending with a feature on the Ital in Paradise restaurant on St. Croix; interviews include chef Jamal Miranda and farmer Rodney Joseph.
