Still pending is confirmation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on preliminary findings of the presence of BA.5. “We will inform the general public of the confirmation once received from the CDC,” said Encarnacion.

She also said that the Health Department is expecting that the variant will eventually begin to circulate and for the public to be vigilant by practicing healthy behaviors while in public spaces where more exposure can occur.

Encarnacion said that it is important for the public to understand that COVID-19 is not dwindling down or isn’t present. What it means is that we have the possibility of being exposed at any time. “There is expected to be a surge throughout the mainland in August or September, and of course, you know we follow after that.”
