Man on St. Thomas Turns Himself into Police; Charged with Rape

A man on St. Thomas turned himself into police after a warrant was issued for his arrest for sexual assault, the V.I. Police Department reported Tuesday.

Bernard O. James Jr., 45, turned himself in and was arrested and charged with rape Tuesday for a sexual assault that occurred in August, according to the police report.

VIPD was dispatched to Oswald Harris Court on Aug. 30 in response to an alleged assault. An investigation revealed that a female had been sexually assaulted, the report stated.

Bail was set at $150,000, and James was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advice of rights hearing, police said.

This case is under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
