Woman Assaulted by Boyfriend on St. Croix

A woman told detectives Thursday that she was assaulted by a man she has been in a relationship with for two months, the V.I. Police Department reported.

At approximately 12:10 p.m., the Criminal Investigation Bureau was dispatched to Juan F. Luis Hospital for an assault domestic violence case. CIB detectives spoke with the victim, who stated she was assaulted by Teddy Vanhorn, with whom she has been in a relationship for two months, according to the police report.

She stated that she woke up to Vanhorn stomping on her face and neck, hitting her, and strangling her until she lost consciousness. The victim sustained injuries to her nose, neck and fingers, the police report stated.

Vanhorn was Mirandized and declined to provide a statement. Vanhorn was arrested, booked and transported to John A. Bell Correctional Facility pending his advice of rights hearing. He was charged with assault in the second degree/DV and no bail was set in this matter, police said.
