St. Croix Man Killed in Shooting on Market Street

A St. Croix man was shot and succumbed to his injuries Sunday evening on Market Street in Christiansted, the V.I. Police Department reported.

Next of kin identified the dead man as Terrance Leroy James, age 38. It was the 10th homicide on St. Croix since the beginning of the year, the 23rd in the territory, according to the Source homicide list.*

According to police, at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday the 911 emergency call center received a report of shots fired on Market Street in Christiansted, the area also known as “Times Square.”

Responding officers found an unresponsive male on the ground. The male, later identified as James, appeared to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds about the body. Emergency medical technicians on the scene concluded that the male did not have any signs of life.

Police urged anyone with information regarding this incident to call 911, the Crime Tip Line at 340-778-4950 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477 (1-800-222-TIPS).

* The Source homicide list is based on police reports, but unlike the police list and those in some other media, the Source list does not include suicides or vehicular homicides, which can cause a variance in the number of incidents reported.
