Fugitive Arrested on St. Thomas for Crimes in Florida

A man was apprehended on St. Thomas who had a warrant out for his arrest for violations of the Florida Penal Code, the V.I. Police Department reported Tuesday.

On Thursday, detectives on St. Thomas received information that an active Warrant of Arrest was written for 19-year-old Masai K. Ubiles for the charges of sexual battery and false imprisonment, violations of the Florida Penal Code, according to the police report.

A fugitive investigation was opened where information revealed that Ubiles was on St. Thomas and operating a white Toyota Camry, which was seen in the area of the University of the Virgin Islands Field House, the report stated.

With the assistance of deputies of the U.S. Marshal Service, Ubiles was apprehended without incident and was arrested, booked, and processed. Ubiles is facing charges of fugitive from justice, sexual battery and false imprisonment. No bail was set in this matter. He was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his court appearance, police said.
