A St. Thomas man is dead after an early afternoon shooting Tuesday at the Kirwan Terrace housing community, the V.I. Police Department reported.
The victim has been identified as Kiante Christopher, 25, police said. His death marks the territory’s 29th homicide of 2023, and the 16th for St. Thomas, according to the Source Homicide List.* St. Croix has recorded 13 so far this year.
Officers responded to a 911 call of shots being fired at 1:06 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Kirwan Terrace in Estate Lindbergh Bay on the West End of St. Thomas, according to the report. They then went to Schneider Regional Medical Center, where a man had been taken with multiple gunshot wounds, police said.
Christopher was unresponsive and later died of his injuries, they said.
The shooting death is the second in less than a week on St. Thomas.
Police responding to a 911 call at 6 a.m. Saturday found a man dead in his car with multiple gunshot wounds in the area of Nadir Hill. He was identified as Terrance Rabsatt, 53.
Just five days earlier, on Sept. 4, Shemar Coward, 23, died at the hospital from injuries he suffered in a shooting in the Sub Base area of St. Thomas around 2:11 a.m. on Aug. 30.
