Man Shot in Hip on St. Croix

A man was found shot and injured on St. Croix Sunday in the area of Whim Shanty on Queen Mary Highway, the V.I. Police Department reported. 

At about 9:06 p.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center received notification from Shot Spotter of six shots fired in the vicinity of the Whim Shanty on Queen Mary Highway, according to the police report.

Upon the investigator’s arrival in the area, contact was made with a Hispanic man who was lying on the ground bleeding from the left hip area, the police report stated.

Emergency Medical Technicians arrived on scene and cared for the victim, who was transported to Juan F. Luis Hospital by ambulance, the report stated.

The victim said he was walking eastbound on Queen Mary when the suspect’s vehicle, a red Rio, drove up to him at the Whim intersection entrance and discharged three shots, with the third one striking him. He then heard two more shots and ran for cover, according to the report.
