Police Suspect Foul Play in Death of St. Croix Man

Police suspect foul play in the case of a man found dead in the shower of his Estate Two Brothers Home Friday evening on St. Croix.

A concerned citizen alerted V.I. Police after she tried calling the man but got no response, and then saw the door to his home was open, according to a press release from VIPD Communications Officer Glen Dratte.

The 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched Francis Command Units to conduct a welfare check at the home at 7:34 p.m., Friday, according to Dratte. At the same time, “it further aired that a concerned citizen was calling the individual but there was no response, and the door was open. The female then saw a unit traveling westbound and flagged down the officers for assistance,” he said.

The officers checked inside the residence and discovered an unresponsive Black middle-aged man in the bathroom lying in the shower/tub, the release stated.

“Foul play is suspected, and the investigation is ongoing. The identity of the individual is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin who resides off-island,” said Dratte.

This case is being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Bureau Major Crime Unit as a homicide.  Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, the CIB Tip-Line at 340-778-4950 or 340 712 6040, or 911.

The man’s death is the sixth homicide of the year on St. Croix, and the eighth for the territory, according to the Source Homicide List.*

Editor’s Note: The Source Homicide List is a chronological log of the homicides recorded in 2022 in the U.S. Virgin Islands, as reported by the VIPD. Cases are broken down by island. While this listing is based on VIPD reports, the Source does not include suicides or vehicular homicides in its listing that the police and some other media do. This can lead to a discrepancy in the number of incidents reported.
